El Centre d’Interpretació de l’Aigua de Torrelavit, un nou equipament cultural i turístic al Penedès que posa en valor el paper del riu i l’aigua en el passat, present i futur al territori. La museïtzació compta amb audiovisuals i fotografies històriques i es divideix en tres parts: el Riu, on s’explica com aquest esdevé l’eix per als assentaments urbans i el subministrament d’aigua al territori; l’Aigua per treballar, fent un repàs de la indústria paperera que hi havia al municipi amb la construcció de dotze molins paperers des del s. XVII fins al s. XX, i quins són els usos del paper al llarg de la història; i la darrera part, que posa en valor els actius turístics i culturals de Torrelavit i la iniciativa del Camí del Riu, entre d’altres.

Activities and Workshops

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE CENTRE D’INTERPRETACIÓ

Guided visits which detail the relationship between the Riudebitlles and the municipality, and the mark it has left on the area’s past, present, and future.
Duration: 1 hour   Price: 4 €
 
During your visit, you’ll explore Torrelavit, a town with a past, present, and future.

 

You’ll discover the paper mills of Torrelavit and the history of paper production.

 

You’ll go deep into the Riudebitlles river ecosystem, with its bridges, walkways, and washhouses.

 

You’ll learn how important water is and discover what the El Camí del Riu is.

DISCOVER TORRELAVIT

A short itinerary along Torrelavit’s Calle Mayor to the Iglesia de Sant Marçal, discovering anecdotes and local history with every step.
Duration: 1 hour   Price: 4 €
Difficulty: Easy. Town walking. No hills or slopes. Suitable for those with reduced mobility.
The tour departs from the Centre d’Interpretació de l’Aigua. It visits the Puente de las Escuelas and the Iglesia de Sant Marçal de Terrassola, a small Roman treasure.

 

You’ll learn about the history of Torrelavit, walk along Calle Mayor and browse the shops. The tour ends in front of the Centre d’Interpretació de l’Aigua.

VISIT THE WASHHOUSES

Discover the old public washhouses of Torrelavit and the art of doing washing on the river bank.
Duration: 1 hour   Price: 4 €
Difficulty: Easy. Walking for 5-10 minutes following the course of the river until the washhouses and returning. Not suitable for those with reduced mobility.
The tour departs from the Centre d’Interpretació de l’Aigua. The route follows the river to the washhouses. Along the way, you’ll hear about the El Camí del Riu initiative, learn about the area’s flora and fauna, and what the role of man has been on the river, the paper mills and the canal locks.

 

You’ll visit several washhouses, and learn what they are and how they became a space for socialization, what they were used for and how washing used to be done.

LEARN TO BE A MASTER OF PAPER

Paper workshop to learn how to make your own paper from newspaper or recycled paper.
Duration: 1 hour   Price: 4 €
Difficulty: Easy
Recycle and change old paper into new sheets of paper that you can take home with you.

 

Learn where paper comes from, how it’s made and what tools were used in the production process.

 

Prepare the paper paste, put it into the moulds, and learn about the process of drying paper.

 

The workshop finishes with a creativity session in which everyone can let their imaginations run wild while sculpting the paper and creating different objects and tools.
